  • Orange Peel & Ginger Tea!

    This recipe turned out so yummy I had to share it! My intention was to have a pot of immune tea simmering daily to keep my system clean, warm, packed with vitamins/minerals and healthy!
    I was inspired to make this recipe starting with @organic_olivia recipe. Since I have an in house apothecary, I always add a TON of plants to boost the effects and further the immune strengthening benefits.

    Orange Peel & Ginger Tea Recipe
    1 Orange (sliced with the skin on) 
    1-2 Orange Peels (peel only) (enjoy the orange or add it to your mug)
    3" Fresh Ginger (peeled and sliced)
    2 Cinnamon Sticks
    2 Star Anise
    1 Small Handful Lemon Balm
    1 Small Handful Echinacea
    1 Handful Nettle Leaf
    1 Small Handful Marshmallow Root
    1 Small Handful Rosemary (or 2 Fresh Sprigs) 
    2 Slices of Reishi
    15-20 Cups Water (less for a stronger brew)

    Load up a pot with all the ingredients listed. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for 45-55minutes. Drink warm and add honey for extra sweetness and immune benefits! Continue to simmer the brew on low and drink throughout the day.

    *NOTE: you can use other citrus for both the slices and skin - lemon, lime, or grapefruit. You can also use other herbs or spices based on what you have in the pantry. I love to add Green Tea to my mug for extra medicinal values.

    Organic Olivia adds Fennel Seeds which support gut health along with a 1/2 onion which are high in Quercetin and antimicrobial. 

    When the brew is ready to serve, I love to add an extra Orange slice in my mug + 1 tsp of Vanilla Honey! So yummy!!!

    STAR ANISE: antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and antimicrobial.

    LEMON BALM: antiviral, anti-depressant, digestive stimulant, relaxing, restorative for nervous system, antibacterial, carminative, antispasmodic, calms a nervous stomach, colic & heart spasms. Combats mumps, cold sores & other viruses.

    ECHINACEA: used to prevent and treat the common cold, influenza & infections. Best known immune stimulants, causes an increase in the number of immune cells, further enhancing the overall activity of the immune system.

    NETTLE LEAF: strengthens, nourishes and rebuilds body tissue, treats burn out and fatigue, regulates blood sugar, herbal multi-vitamin (high in calcium, iron, protein, zinc, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, chlorophyll, vitamins A, C, B Complex & K) & works as an adaptogen. Great for kidney health, digestion, the spleen and gallbladder; heals stomach and intestinal ulcers, relieves constipation, treats diarrhea and clears intestinal infections.

    MARSHMALLOW ROOT: general all purpose soother, expectorant (loosen respiratory congestion by making secretions less viscous), work to relax the respiratory tissue and are often used to soothe dry, irritated coughs, as well as to relieve congested coughs. 

    ROSEMARY: stimulates the heart & circulation, dispels cold energy, relieves exhaustion, treats depression, stress, weakness and shyness. She opens the sinuses, resolves phlegm, is great for aches, pains, coughs, colds, congestion and flu. This magical plant treats headaches, increases low blood pressure, restores the nerves & promotes clear thinking; stimulates digestion, relieves fullness & indigestion.     MATCHA: packed with antioxidants, boosts metabolism & burns calories, detoxifies, calms the mind, relaxes the body, rich in fiber, chlorophyll & vitamins; enhances mood and aids in concentration.
